Doctors’ Waiting Rooms: Not My Favorite Place

The Waiting Room

Doctors’ waiting rooms are not my favorite place to be.  It doesn’t matter whether I’m the patient, or whether it’s another member of my family and I’m just tagging along.

They’re uncomfortable.  The table is uncomfortable, and the chairs are the same.

There’s always some apprehension as well.  Are the results of the exam or the tests going to be good, or are they going to provide scary news?  Actually, there have only been a few times sitting in one of these rooms when the news was bad.  But memories of those times seem to overwhelm all the times the news has been good.

Then there’s the fact that you almost always have to WAIT in a waiting room.  I’m never good at that, especially when I already have some apprehension.  The months-old magazines do me little good.  Reading the disease brochures provided by drug companies does little for me.  Studying the equipment hanging on the walls isn’t really comforting either.

In fact, the only thing I like about waiting rooms is getting out of them.

I bet there are some of you out there that feel the same way, huh.
